His Master’s Voice
Old tin toys have been an inspiration in my work for the past few years.
They possess a quality and visual appeal unlike any of today’s mass-produced plastics.
This wind-up toy of a performing circus dog with ball was made in the U.S.
Occupied Sector in Germany, for a foreign market proceeding World War II.
At that time Allies forces encouraged the production of industries in the defeated Country of Germany.
The Allies flags on the apron are a subtle intervention by the artist, along with the ball showing the colours of the pre-90's Iraq flag.
This comical dog somehow reminds me of the little nipper from the now infamous label 'His
Master's Voice' sitting inquisitively beside a phonograph.
Originally a British Icon but widely used by RCA Records in America in later years this ironic twist of fate has been exploited once more.

My Friday
I found this small toy inside a box along with other trinket items.
Perhaps the driftwood was a souvenier from a previous owner?
The tales & memories, only the original custodian can reveal.
Like an urban archaeologist, I'm compelled to find logic between these disparate objects.
